Orlando Magic Keeps Dwight Howard With 5-Year Extension
Orlando Magic remains busy, giving its franchise player with a 5-year extension. According to the AP report, the deal worth 85 mil.
The Magic already completed the sign-and-trade with Seattle for Rashard Lewis, earlier the week. Now they get to lock up one of the most promising player in the league.
I am still sadden by the fact that they let Darko go so easily. It was said to be GM Otis Smith’s priority to keep the young big man, but without any warning, Smith changed direction and snatched the top FA off the board in Lewis, which resulted in waiving Darko.
The extension of Howard is a good sign that the Magic wants to keep its premium big man, and that Howard is not going to pull a Shaq and leave Orlando any time soon. The team is not ready to contend just yet, they are 1 more veteran scorer and a capable big man to compliment Howard away to come close to Detroit, Cleveland, and the others. But the franchise is going on the right direction led by Smith, so hopefully we will see a couple more moves from the GM to make the team better.
