Paul’s Note: For the original article in Traditional Chinese, click HERE. J-Train has been busy, writing several good articles in a short amount of time, I’ll try to get them translated ASAP. Also gonna give myself a plug — my weekly Fantasy Baseball Notes should happen tonight, so drop by if you are interested! Now on to the article…

“The following story took placed in morning of Chien-Ming Wang’s last start on the 19th. But Taiwanese media didn’t find it too interesting so they didn’t use it, even World Journal just included in the inside pages.

Anyway, I’ll share it with you guys here:

  • On a day one of his favorite students starts, what did pitching coach Ron Guidry do when he arrives at the ballpark in the morning? The answer is — Let’s play some golf.Due to the previous game being a night game, the game on the 19th started in the afternoon at 1, the reporting time for the players was 11:30. As for Guidry, his age did not affect him, he showed up bright and early at 9:30.Taking advantage of a empty locker room, Guidry put down 2 paper cups on the ground, picked up a club and began playing a game of ghetto golf. The rule was simple — just putt the ball into a cup. Guidry was famous for his slider during his playing days, but apparently he didn’t work on his putting as much. He struggled to make the putt, even blaming the ground was not flat.Players still hadn’t showed up, but more and more media members came to see what’s going on. Some were just there for fun, some even got down and examined the ‘grass’ and ’slope,’ analyzing for Guidry. One public relation staff walked by, didn’t realize what was going on, thinking the cup was trash, picked it up and threw it away. The media members on the side hurried and reminded him that “coach is playing golf!” The young PR nervously picked the cup back up from the trash can.Still can’t make any putt, Guidry continued to hit, 1 putt after another. Finally, Chien-Ming Wang arrived and noticed the ‘golf tournament.’ He curiously peaked from the side, the crowd was having a good time, but Wang had a game of his own to play so he walked back to his locker and changed.

Busy putting, Guidry, who usually enjoys messing with Wang, did not want to break concentration, so it was time for Larry Bowa, the 3rd base coach, to step in. He looked at Wang and yelled “You have a game today, why do you still look asleep!?”
