Fantasy Baseball Notes (8/12)
I wasn’t able to write one last week, so let’s make it up by doing it early this time. Partially because I don’t feel like working on this project that is due in about 12 hours.
- In my previous post, I mentioned a red hot Marcus Thames. Well, if you need infield help, then look for Dustin Pedroia of the Red Sox. He hit .500 for the past week with 1 HR and 2 SBs, I will take that from a 2B any day, and no I don’t think he is going to cool off much, perhaps not .500, but definitely something good.
- Brian Wilson of the Giants just got called up. Why is this interesting? Well, he is projected to be the future closer. Brad Hennessey is doing alright, went through 2 months and got only 2SVs because the Giants weren’t winning, but then saved 5 games in July and has been acceptable for teams that need SVs. Pay attention how Wilson is being used, and snag him if Hennessey shows signs of falling apart.
- Kaz Matsui of the Rockies has been under the radar since he fled Queens, but he (not so) quietly is giving GMs .300 AVG and 21 SBs. The Rockies are on fire as a team, and Little Matsui is running wild stealing 3 last week. *hint hint*
- Dan Haren has given up at least 2 runs for 11 straight outings. He did win 6 of them, but just as I predicted, his ERA is climbing up. He posted a 4.10ERA in July, not exactly Ace-like, but he keeps on winning, because that’s what the A’s do in 2nd half of the season.
- Derek Lowe’s hip is probably going to bother him for another start or 2. He had another mediocre outing on Saturday, giving up 3 earned runs in 6 innings. Better than his last one, but I would not even touch him till he gives a decent start.
- Adam Jones keeps his role coming off the bench. Don’t give up on him, he is worth the wait.
Alright, 5am here in DC…time to get back to work!

Thanks very much for the kind words, and I bet your site will really come in handy when Kosuke Fukudome enters the free agent market.
Aside from that, keep up the good work. The site looks very professional, and is well written.
thanks for stopping by Dan, I am lucky enough to get permission to translate Joseph’s articles. Not sure if I mentioned to you already, but they are listed under ‘J-Train Blog’, the fantasy notes are my own 2 cents =)
